My Name is Khan : Dialogue writer Niranjan Iyenger turns lyricist
It was way back in June this year that we had broken the news about two splendid scratch tunes in the Karan Johar project, MY NAME IS KHAN, and also their situation in the much anticipated film. And here is more on the subject.
Niranjan Iyenger, the dialogue writer of films like Madhur Bhandarkar’s FASHION, Karan Johar’s KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA and KAL HO NA HO, was once a regular dialogue writer for the Bhatt camp with films like JISM, ROG, PAAP etc. But now Niranjan has turned lyricist and has written two outstanding ’sufi’ based compositions for Karan’s Shah Rukh Khan–Kajol starrer, MY NAME IS KHAN. The lyrics have already been put to tunes and as per a very reliable film personality who has had the privilege of listening to them, they are simply awesome. Both the songs will be used in the background.
Well, we are sure that the talented and now versatile Niranjan Iyenger, who has proved himself as an able dialogue writer, will surely hit it off as a lyricist too. And he has got the perfect launch vehicle, a Karan Johar film starring Bollywood’s global super star, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol!

Dear Karan,at a time when the West is turning towards Indian music(Example: A.R.Rahman’s work in Slumdog Millionaire) I hear that you plan to make My Name is Khan a songless movie. This most eagerly awaited movie will be destroyed if you do so. Your movies have always carried beautiful music. Your fans worldwide expect you to surpass your record in My Name is Khan. Please don’t become so western that you turn your back on your own culture and traditions. Filmmakers like Mehboob, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, K.Asif, Yash Chopra should be your inspiration. And you should bring back the glorious music of Naushad, Shankar-Jaikishen, S.D.Burman, Madan Mohan, R.D.Burman and Khayyam through other composers. With singers like Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal you have a great chance to revive the magic of Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar Regards. Saeed
The above comment is not on Niranjan Iyenger. He is a good writer and has probably done well as a lyricist too. My comment is on the film itself. I and millions of people like me do not want My Name is Khan to be a songless film or a film which has songs only in the background. We want it to be a full-blooded musical like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Alwida Na Kehna. The 11th(including guest appearances by Kajol) Shahrukh Khan-Kajol movie deserves nothing less. And it just cannot afford to letdown anyone.

Its one of the best movies that I have seen in recent times. Its great to see Kajol and SRK back together pulling of a scintillating performance. Karan Johar has proved that he can venture into the serious cinema as well with elan besides making mainstream Bollywood entertainers.
The movie represents the true meaning of Islam and defies the myth or the popular misconceptions that most of the non-muslims have about Islam right now. Every society, religion or country has its own set of good of bad people and just because of one section (read crazy terrorists) the whole Muslim community does not become evil. Hope this movie will help others understand Islam better, make a way for global peace and set new BO records.
SRK undoubtedly this is your best performance till date…
